Mixed bag of contemporary watercolour art

[[VIDEOID:mo1EIXGM5P1OW1N]]This book is a mixed bag. Looking at the preview pages that Amazon has provided, I would not have bought the book. But I managed to browse through the whole book at a bookstore and like it enough to buy it.
The book features the artworks of several contemporary artists. I only know two out of the 21 artists featured so it's great to check out other new artists.
What you won't see are the typical traditional watercolour painting style. Instead, we have a nice variety of artworks and subjects being tackled by the watercolour medium. There are artworks of desks, childlike drawings of vegetables, ink and watercolour sketches, fashion illustration, abstract, Ultramarine blue portraits, book spines, fantasy illustrations and other stuff.
It's quite cool to see how the artists use watercolour for the different subjects in their own styles. This is the main reason why I bought the book. It's delightful to look at all the examples and to get a bit of inspiration for experiments that I might personally try.
By the way, I won't describe more than half of the artworks featured as paintings. Paintings implied a finished piece of work. There are some finished pieces, and there are those that feel unfinished, there are the illustrations, and then there are some paintings.
The only text are the artist profiles. There's no mention of the techniques which would have made the book even better.
Who this book will appeal to, I feel, is quite subjective, so I recommend browsing before buying if possible.

lovely *little* book

I ordered this expecting a large-format book, similar to my other art books and was surprised when a little box arrived (a bit bigger than a shoebox) and inside was the copy of "Watercolor: Paintings of Contemporary Artists".
Don't let the size fool you- this thick book is full of amazing, beautiful art from incredible artists. There's everything from portraits to patterns to landscapes to abstract compositions and everything in between. The one constant in this book is that all of the artists use a "fluid" kind of style. It's amazing.
This is NOT a how-to book. This is sort of a gallery, in book-form, of the potential of the medium if you are willing to step out of the watercolor box and explore the fluid nature of the medium. There's no discussion of techniques or information about materials in the book- just pages after page of colorful images.
If you are remotely interested in watercolor and are looking for a good book to inspire you, this is perfect. I'm so pleased with this beautiful book.

Some good art lives here

Bought the kindle version, which displays fine in hi-res color kindle app's (i use a mac).
The book contains a few really excellent examples of the classical watercolor restraint, specifically, the details that one should exclude from a watercolor to make it such an effective emotional medium. Also contains some "junk" watercolors from artists with little painting technique, color management or composition skills. BUT STILL WORTH BUYING!
I suggest absorbing the art in short sessions of 30 pages at one sitting. I just sat and stared at some for minutes: subtle yet complex, emotional without smothering, colors that remind one of the scene without being true. Some of the cityscapes capture the essence of how I imagine the light in Paris bounces off the buildings -- with just the right level of detail to show the vastness of the city without overwhelming the viewer.
