From Booklist
Gilton, a professor of information science, has written a scholarly book that deals with multicultural literature. Most of the book is focused on issues related to people of color. She begins her examination with a review of the history of multicultural children’s literature in the U.S., then covers general trends, such as the “insider/outsider” debate, and emerging issues and groups, such as multiracial families and Arab and Muslim Americans. Each of the chapters ends with an extensive reference list. A cumulative bibliography is included as well as an index. Most academic libraries will find this book useful, and it is recommended for universities with schools of information and library science or advanced degree programs in education or children’s literature. --Cynthia Crosser
